DAY 1: OVERVIEW OF COACHING AND MENTORING & DIRECTIVE COACHING

This introductory session lays the foundation by distinguishing between coaching and mentoring, exploring their unique roles and benefits in professional development. Participants delve into directive coaching, where the coach provides specific guidance and instruction, enhancing decision-making and action-oriented outcomes. Key objectives include understanding foundational principles, differentiating coaching from mentoring, and applying directive coaching techniques effectively.

DAY 2: COLLABORATIVE COACHING

Building on the initial session, collaborative coaching emphasizes partnership and shared decision-making between coach and coachee. Participants learn to foster trust, encourage open communication, and co-create goals and action plans. This session equips participants with strategies to build a collaborative coaching environment, essential for mutual accountability and sustained development.

DAY 3: NONDIRECTIVE COACHING

Nondirective coaching focuses on facilitating self-discovery and empowering coachees to find their own solutions. This session highlights the importance of active listening, asking powerful questions, and promoting self-awareness. Participants practice guiding coachees through introspective processes, enhancing their ability to support autonomous problem-solving and personal growth.

DAY 4: ESTABLISHING AN ORGANIZATIONAL COACHING CULTURE

Transitioning to the strategic level, this session explores how to embed coaching practices within an organization’s culture. Participants learn to secure leadership buy-in, integrate coaching into HR practices, and develop plans to sustain a coaching culture. Emphasizing continuous support and impact measurement, this session ensures that coaching becomes an integral part of Organization Development.

DAY 5: MENTORING AND THE FUTURE OF COACHING AND MENTORING

The final session bridges coaching and mentoring, exploring their integration and future trends. Participants examine emerging technologies, such as AI and digital tools, and their impact on coaching and mentoring practices. Additionally, this session encourages personal development, allowing participants to reflect on their growth and set future goals as effective coaches and mentors.

FACILITATOR’S BIO

Dr. William Rothwell

Distinguished Professor at Penn State with over 50 years of HR experience and numerous publications.

William J. Rothwell has extensive experience as a consultant for over fifty multinational companies, governments, and nonprofits. He founded three consulting firms and three small businesses in State College, PA. Before joining Penn State in 1993, he had nearly 20 years of executive-level experience in HR, talent development, and organization development. He has authored 162 books and delivered over 1,600 presentations globally. At Penn State, he co-leads a master’s program in Organization Development and Talent Development and a Ph.D. program in Workforce Education and Development. Dr. Rothwell holds a Ph.D. in Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois, an Honorary DBA from Alliance International University, an MABA in Human Resource Management, and an M.A. in English Literature. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a Senior Certified Professional by SHRM (SHRM-SCP), among other credentials.
